The former racehorse Nacarat has died at the age of 14, after suffering a paddock injury.

Notable wins

During his career the popular grey won nine out of 38 starts, earning nearly £500,000 in prize money. Among his notable wins were the Grade One Totesport Bowl at Aintree in 2011, and the Racing Post Chase at Kempton in 2009 and 2012.

Nacarat was owned by Simon Clarke and trained by Tom George who imported him from France as a seven-year-old. The exuberant jumper was succesful in his debut in a handicap chase at Wincanton in 2008, and he went on to win hearts with his front-running style.

The gelding was retired in 2013 and went back to his owner’s home, where he was hacked out and went hunting.

‘Greatly missed’

“He had been at his owner Simon Clarke’s home since his retirement and went hunting only last week,” Tom told the Racing Post. “Simon used to let me run Nacarat where and when I wanted to. He gave me a free hand with the horse. He was brilliant.”
