Medal haul for British students at World Finals

Britain has wontwo golds and two silver medalsat the AIEC Student Riding World Finals in Wellington, Florida (30 December – 1 January).

Prestigious cup

The University Equestrian Team, which comprised Lauren Innes, Lottie Kennedy and Jess Campbell, won gold in the dressage and the combined competition.

The victory saw Britain move up from third place in the Student Riders Nations Cup (SRNC)2014 rankings to win the prestigious President’s Cup.

Strong team

Reading Universitystudent Lauren also won individual silver in the dressage and combined. She was beaten by Ireland’s Brian Morrison in both events.

“We knew we had a strong team but with so many talented riders from around the world we’re thrilled to have had such an amazing result,” she said.

In the silver league Steph Gunn came eighth individually and was part of a mixed international team that won overall silver.

Valuable points

Twelve nations compete throughout the year in the SRNC series to gain valuable points. The top six countries qualify for the gold league at the World Finals, while the remaining countries take part in the silver league.

The 2015 AIEC Series kicks off in March, with the first competition held in Belgium.
