Guy Williams’ former top showjumper dies

Guy Williams’ former top showjumper Torinto van de Middelstede has been put to sleep at the age of 19.

Huge success

According to reports, the horse injured himself while in his field. However, Guy chose not to talk about the details of his death to H&C, saying he preferred to focus on all their good times together.

“He was more than a horse he was a mate,” Guy said, clearly devastated by his loss. “He took me all around the world and won so many classes for me – too many to mention.”

Guy and Torinto had huge success together, winning five-star competitions at showjumping’s most prestigious venues from London Olympia to Mechelen in Belgium, where he won the Grand Prix in 2010.

Horse of a life-time

They were was also regular members of Nations Cup teams, helping secure victory for Great Britain in Abu Dhabi in 2010. Their double clear was voted ‘Performance of the Month’ by British Showjumping.

The Belgian-bred horse by Remondo retired from competition in 2012, and for the past two years enjoyed a well-earned rest at Guy’s yard.

“He was the horse that helped me step up a level,” said Guy. “He was a horse of a lifetime.”
