Opposition Buzz, one of the most popular and successful horses in British eventing, has been put down at the age of 17.

Star

Nicola Wilson, the rider of ‘Dodi’, confirmed the news today on her official website.

“Our beloved Dodi sadly passed away yesterday after several weeks of enjoying his well deserved retirement. He had a seizure in the morning and was put to sleep on veterinary advice,” she wrote.

Team regular

Opposition Buzz had an incredible eventing career, completing 12 four-star events and representing Britain at the world and European championships. He was also part of the silver medal-winning team at London 2012.

In April, it was announced he was that he was stepping down from four-star level. But this season he continued to be an eventing star – with seven top six placings at three-star and Advanced level.

Dodi finished his career with a second place in the Advanced at Allerton Park, before it was announced that the gelding was to be fully retired from the sport.

Shock

His sudden illness and death came as a ‘shock’ to Nicola and her team. The Yorkshire-based rider paid tribute to him on her website:

“A very special horse who will be missed beyond belief. He made so much possible and opened so many doors for me. Rest in peace Dodi and thank you.”
