Nations Cup first-timer Nana Dalton has won the individual CIC3* at the penultimate leg of the FEI Nations Cup Eventing series, held in Waregem, Belgium.

Suprise winner

Nana was 25th after the dressage and moved up to 14th after going clear in the showjumping. However, it was her performance on the cross-country that saw her the surprise winner.

Nana and Abbeylara Prince were the only combination to finish the cross-county with time penalties in single figures, which was enough tomove them to the top of the leaderboard.

Germany was the winning team in the Nations Cup competition – and is closing in on Britain’s lead in the series.

Challenging cross-country

The Germans led throughout in Belgium and were the only team to have all four riders complete the challenging cross-country track. The host nation took second place, while the Netherlands finished third.

Britain ended up in fourth place after Sarah Bullimore had a run-out with Reve du Rouet in the water complex. Teammate Francis Whittington fell from West Side at the same fence, while Coral Keen parted company from Wellshead Fare Opposition at fence 19.

Defending champions

This was Germany’s third Nations Cup win of the season, following victories at Houghton Hall and Aachen. However, as Britain as competed in more events it still heads the leaderboard by nine points.

There is 11 points given for a win, which means even if the defending champions triumph at the last leg at Boekelo next month, Britain only has to place in the top eight to hold onto its lead.
