The British Carriagedriving squad has been announced for the FEI Alltech World Equestrian Games.

Points system

Selection is based on a points system, with drivers allowed to collect valuable points at five shows.

Wilf Bowman-Ripley (45) from Great Canfield in Essex, and Georgina Hunt (45) from Newdigate in Surrey, both got three good scores at their first three shows, which secured their place early in the season. Joining them is Dick Lane (52) from Cranleigh, Surrey.

The non-travelling reserves are (in ranked order): George Bowman from Cumbria – who is still competing at the age of 79 – Pippa Bassett (51) from Surrey and Mark Broadbent (55) from Devon.

Good feeling

“I’m really excited about the squad and am looking forward to heading out to Normandy,” said chef d’equipe Zoe Morgan. “We went out to the test event last year so we’re not going out completely blind which is a good feeling to have.”

The driving takes place 4-7 September at La Prairie Racecourse in Caen.
